St. Philips Episcopal Church of Putnam, CT
Fellowship is alive, well and growing at St. Philip's!
We are hearteded by the stability our community has achieved. With our mentor the Reverend David Brown, we are creating an atmosphere of encouragement and spiritual growth.
As we moved from a "vertical top down" administration to a "horizontal total ministry," we watched each of us share in the work load and decision making. We can't help but believe that everyones envolvement makes the liturgy, both upstairs and its continuation downstairs, a more complete, nourishing act.
What you will find when visiting us for the first time...
Our Sunday morning services are fairly traditional, we follow the book of Common Prayer and celebrate the Eucurist every week. With our small size we often share many roles; for example, Father Brown plays the piano for all of our hyms. We sometimes hit a few stumbling blocks that bring humor to our services. We call it "building the plane as we fly."
You are welcome to come in your "Sunday Best" or in jeans and a tee-shirt. Just expect to find a smile and an honest welcome.
After Service Coffee Hour
Each week after service everyone is welcome to gather downstairs in the church meeting room for a "Circle of Deciples" meeting. Insted of a traditional Vestry with its own meetings, all members of the church are invited to propose, discuss, and vote on issues regarding our parish. This is incorporated into our coffee hour, with refreshments and the informality of a family meeting, where all views and questions are welcome. Of course, our regular format may be suspended so that we may welcome a visitor!
